A civil defence mock drill is scheduled for tomorrow across the states of Punjab, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir from 5 pm to 9 pm, on May 29, to reinforce the state’s emergency preparedness and safety protocols. This is the second mock drill, following a nationwide one under ‘Operation Abhyan’ that took place on May 7.

The mock drill was organised after India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting Pakistan, in response to the Pahalgam attack. The second one will be in response to the same, strengthening India’s preparedness for war-like emergencies in the heightened tensions with Pakistan.

The mock drill will include testing of the air raid sirens to assess public alert systems, as well as widespread civilian training sessions on safety protocols, first aid and emergency response evacuation rehearsals to enhance civilian movement to safe zones.

In Haryana, 22 districts will participate in the mock drill from 5 pm to 9 pm and will also observe a 15-minute blackout as part of ‘Operation Shield’. The power outage procedures will require citizens to switch off lights, mimicking a blackout to reduce visibility during potential aerial threats.

Civil defence volunteers, including those from the National Service Scheme (NSS), National Cadet Corps (NCC), and those trained at Civil Defence Training institutes, will be deployed to oversee the procedures and plan.
