A man named Zameer has alleged that a group of six men attacked him and his friend Wasim in Hegde Nagar, Bengaluru, on Sunday evening. He says the attackers abused them, hit them with a stick, and forced Wasim to chant “Jai Shri Ram”.
The incident happened between 4:30 and 5:30 pm near the AJBJ grounds, under the Sampigehalli police station area.
Zameer, who works as a mechanic, said he had stopped his vehicle near the ground to relieve himself when the group of men approached him.
“They suddenly came up to us and started asking why we were there. Then they began abusing and beating us,” Zameer said in his police complaint.
Zameer managed to run away, but his friend Wasim was caught by the attackers.
“They hit him with a stick. When he shouted ‘Allah’ in pain, they got angry and told him to say ‘Jai Shri Ram’,” Zameer alleged.
The police have registered an FIR and are looking into the case. A police officer said, “We are investigating the complaint. Once the accused are identified, strict action will be taken.”
Zameer said he was shaken by the incident and hopes the police will catch the attackers soon.
“This was a horrifying experience. We were just minding our own business,” he said.
