In Photos | Students Protest at Jamia Millia Islamia, Demand Release of Detained Peers

A protest was held at Jamia Millia Islamia University on Thursday, demanding the release of students detained by the Delhi Police. The protest began at 4 pm at the university’s central canteen, with students gathering to seek answers regarding their peers who were taken into custody at dawn while peacefully protesting for the past three days.

A total of 15 students were detained early in the morning. While 10 were released in the afternoon from Badarpur and Kalkaji police stations, the whereabouts of the remaining five remained unclear, raising concerns among protesters.

Hours later, it was confirmed that they had been held at Banarwa Police Station, before being transferred to Burari Police Station and released in the evening.

With the release of all detained students, the protest, which was initially expected to continue indefinitely, came to an end.

However, the protesters have now turned their focus to the university administration.

Speaking to The Observer Post, they said they have given officials 24 hours to revoke the suspensions and campus bans imposed on students involved in the demonstrations. If their demands are not met, the students have vowed to continue their movement, promising more peaceful protests in the coming days.
