A woman was killed and another injured in cross-border shelling by Pakistan in the Uri area of Baramulla district in North Kashmir on Thursday.
Officials said a shell hit a vehicle that was traveling from Razerwani to Baramulla near the Mohura area.
In the attack, Nargis Begum, wife of Basheer Khan and a resident of Razerwani, lost her life on the spot. Another woman, Hafeeza, wife of Razeek Ahmad Khan, was injured and taken to GMC Baramulla for treatment.
A doctor at GMC Baramulla told local media, “One woman has died, and another is being treated for injuries.”
This incident comes as Pakistan has been continuously shelling border villages in Uri and Kupwara over the past few days, creating fear and panic among residents.
Locals in Uri say they are living under constant fear. “We don’t know when a shell might fall. It feels like we are not safe even inside our homes,” said a resident of Mohura, requesting anonymity.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation along the Line of Control (LoC), and security forces have been put on high alert.
